The Parliament of the Maldives has opened applications for this year’s first Practice Parliament for Women program, aimed at empowering women to participate in national decision-making and governance.
The training is scheduled to be held from July 5 to 12 in Malé and is open to Maldivian women aged 25 and above. The program is jointly conducted by the People's Majlis Secretariat and UNDP Maldives, with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Applicants from various fields are encouraged to apply, and specific slots have been reserved for persons with disabilities to ensure inclusivity. Travel assistance will be provided for participants residing outside the Malé area.
Only 40 participants will be selected for the program. Interested individuals can download the application form via a provided link, and the deadline to apply is June 10.
The Practice Parliament initiative aims to:
- Familiarise participants with parliamentary procedures.
- Encourage more women and youth to contest parliamentary elections.
- Identify and address policy gaps.
- Promote inclusive and equitable policy-making.
This initiative follows successful earlier sessions, including the Practice Parliament for Youth, which targeted young aspiring leaders.
