President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Transportation Safety Board, a new government body tasked with investigating incidents and accidents across the country’s land, sea, and air transport sectors. The Board will function under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and aims to strengthen the safety and security of the national transport system.
This decision, effective from 8 April 2025, was made in accordance with Section 116 of the Constitution and formally announced in Directive No. 7/2025 issued by the President’s Office.
The formation of the Board underscores the President’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and enhancing accountability within the transportation network. By centralizing the investigation process for all transport-related incidents, the Board is expected to play a key role in improving standards and preventing future accidents.
According to the directive, all official correspondence to the Maldives Transportation Safety Board must use the number 501 in the State agency numbering system.
