The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), has conducted extensive inspections across 385 food establishments as part of its pre-Ramadan operations to ensure cleanliness and food safety.
The inspection campaign, which covered markets, shops, cafés, and restaurants, was carried out across both the Malé region and several atolls to enforce hygiene standards before the start of Ramadan. A total of 65 inspection teams participated in the initiative.
Breakdown of Inspections:
Malé Region:
87 locations inspected in Malé City by 14 teams
22 locations inspected in Hulhumalé by 4 teams
10 locations inspected in Vilimale’ by 2 teams
Atolls:
266 establishments inspected by 45 teams across multiple atolls
The pre-Ramadan inspections are part of the government’s broader efforts to maintain food safety standards and protect public health during the fasting month. The authorities have urged businesses to adhere to hygiene regulations and warned of strict enforcement measures against any violations.
