Attorney General Uz Ahmed Usham has clarified that his office did not provide legal advice on the termination of the agreement between the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Sri Lanka’s Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMCC) for the Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu reclamation under the Rasmale’ project.
The statement was issued in response to a parliamentary inquiry by North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim, who questioned whether the Attorney General’s Office had provided guidance on ending the contract and compensating CMCC before transferring the project to another company.
According to Uz Usham, HDC has not sought legal counsel on the matter, and his office has not issued any recommendations regarding the termination or reassignment of the project.
The Rasmale’ project, initially awarded to CMCC, involved the reclamation of 1,153 hectares of land in Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu. Work commenced in December 2023, with the agreement also granting 70 hectares from Hulhumalé and Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu as part of the project’s cost. However, delays led to the government’s termination of the contract in May last year.
Following a period of inactivity, the project resumed in late 2018. Despite previous setbacks, the government has yet to announce any updates regarding changes to the project’s status or its future direction.
