MFDA Extends Deadline for Food Service Registration

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has extended the deadline for implementing temporary regulations governing food preparation in cafes, restaurants, and homes.
Under the transitional regulations for registering and licensing food service businesses, all establishments and individuals involved in food preparation must complete registration by February 23. Those already registered with other government agencies have up to six months to apply for an MFDA license.
Until the full Food Safety Act regulations come into effect, MFDA will continue overseeing registration and licensing under the temporary framework. Operating a food business without registration is strictly prohibited, with fines ranging from MVR 10,000 to MVR 500,000 for non-compliance.
