President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has directed the Bank of Maldives (BML) to provide an additional $1,500 at the official bank rate for those traveling for Umrah during the upcoming month of Ramadan 1446.
In a post announcing the decision, President Muizzu stated that the extra allocation aims to ease foreign exchange difficulties faced by Umrah pilgrims. This amount will be added to the existing dollar limit on each pilgrim’s BML debit card.
The Bank of Maldives and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) have been instructed to implement the new limit, ensuring that pilgrims can access foreign exchange without added financial strain.
This move provides greater financial ease for those undertaking Umrah during the holy month, addressing previous challenges in securing dollars at the official bank rate.
