Maldives and Azerbaijan Hold Inaugural Bilateral Consultations

The Maldives and Azerbaijan held their first bilateral consultations on January 14, 2025, strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. The discussions focused on advancing collaboration in investment, education, culture, tourism, and connectivity.
The meeting, hosted by the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was chaired by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elnur Mammadov. Discussions revisited agreements made during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s meeting with President Ilham Aliyev at COP29 in Baku last year.
Both delegations highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people connections, enhancing multilateral cooperation, and advancing shared objectives in economic and cultural development. The consultations underscored the commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and identifying opportunities for mutual growth.
The Azerbaijani delegation, led by Deputy Minister Mammadov, included officials from the Export and Investment Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan (AZPROMO) and representatives from the private sector. The delegation engaged with Maldivian stakeholders to explore investment prospects and deepen partnerships.
This inaugural consultation marks a significant milestone in Maldives-Azerbaijan relations, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to long-term collaboration
