President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has ratified the First Amendment to the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act (Law No. 2/2015), following its passage by Parliament on December 9, 2024.
The Amendment enhances the legal framework for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, particularly focusing on cybercrimes and offenses involving computer systems. It introduces new procedures for the discovery of electronic evidence, real-time retrieval of traffic data, and the preservation of data stored in computing systems.
Additionally, the Amendment establishes a 24/7 network to facilitate the exchange of information related to computer data crimes, improving international cooperation in these matters.
The Amendment has been published in the Government Gazette and will come into effect accordingly.
