The Maldivian government is aiming to eradicate mother-to-child transmission of HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B by the end of next year, according to Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. Speaking at a ceremony for World AIDS Day, the minister emphasized the importance of early detection and nationwide collaboration to address such health issues.
Minister Nazim highlighted the introduction of three new treatment guidelines for managing diseases like AIDS as a milestone in the nation’s healthcare system, which ensures comprehensive care and compassion for affected individuals.
He praised President Dr. Muizzu's health policy, which focuses on disease prevention, societal unity, and accessible healthcare. The policy aligns with the principle of "Think Technically and Act Politically," combining professional advice with practical action to achieve national health goals.
In addition, the minister lauded recent measures, such as the nationwide ban on vaping and electronic cigarettes, as significant steps towards public health improvement. He called for continued public cooperation to support these efforts for a healthier Maldives.
