Maldives Showcases World-Class Diving at the 2024 Diving & Resort Travel Expo in Hong Kong

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) and the National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM) successfully promoted the Maldives as a premier diving and marine tourism destination at the 2024 Diving & Resort Travel Expo (DRT Show). The event, held from December 13 to 15 in Hong Kong, served as a vital platform to highlight the breathtaking underwater world of the Maldives to an international audience.
A total of six companies from the Maldivian tourism industry participated alongside Visit Maldives and NBAM:

The DRT Show, a leading global event connecting diving and marine tourism professionals, offered an unparalleled opportunity to showcase the Maldives’ exceptional dive services, liveaboards, resorts, guesthouses, and underwater experiences. The event facilitated B2B engagements, strengthened ties with international travel trade professionals, and provided an avenue to share the latest innovations in Maldives’ diving industry.
Promoting the Maldives in Hong Kong and Beyond
Visit Maldives emphasized its comprehensive product offerings and unique underwater experiences, positioning the Maldives as a world-class destination for diving enthusiasts. The fair also allowed industry partners to unveil their latest plans and strengthen collaborations with global tourism suppliers.
Hong Kong remains a key market for the Maldives, and MMPRC continues to bolster its presence through a 360-degree marketing strategy. Highlights of this year’s efforts include:
- Welcoming the first direct flight from Hong Kong to the Maldives since 2020.
- Organizing marketing campaigns such as the China Webinar Series, Fujian Events, and the Golden Week Campaign.
- Strengthening ties with major Chinese travel platforms through partnerships like the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Fliggy.
- Participating in significant industry events such as the ITB China and the PATA Annual Summit Panel Discussion.
- Conducting familiarization trips in collaboration with PADI and other partners to promote the Maldives' dive offerings.
MMPRC also continues to engage with the market digitally, leveraging platforms like Weibo and WeChat to maintain visibility and grow the Maldives’ appeal in the region.
The DRT Show in Hong Kong reaffirmed the Maldives' position as a leading destination for diving and marine tourism, with continued efforts to solidify its reputation as the ultimate travel destination for Chinese and Hong Kong travelers.
