President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that starting from the upcoming month of Ramadan, a Ramadan allowance will be given to the Women's Development Committees members
During his ongoing visit to the islands of South Ari Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited Dhangethi and met with the residents of the island. Speaking at the meeting, the President emphasized the importance of Women's Development Committees for the progress of the islands. He added that to address the injustices faced by these committees under the law, amendments to the Decentralization Act and the Employment Act will be submitted to the People’s Majlis by February.
“Women's Development Committees have been unfairly treated by law, with a specific provision putting them in a disadvantaged position. However, these women play a vital role in the development of the islands,” said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
In his address, the President shared some good news with the people of Dhangethi. He confirmed that the harbor development will be completed as requested by the residents. He also mentioned that, budget permitting, a housing project would be initiated by reclaiming 27 hectares of land from Dhangethi’s lagoon next year. The President assured that work on the planned Cultural Center in Dhangethi would continue without interruption.
Furthermore, the President stated that each island has its unique needs, and development projects will be prioritized based on the specific requirements of each community. He reaffirmed his commitment to treating all citizens equally, with no discrimination based on the island or political affiliation.
During this trip, the President met with the Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees of Dhangethi, Fenfushi, and Dhidhdhoo.
