Maldives Welcomes AIDA Cruise Ship, Boosting Tourism and Economy

The Maldives celebrated the arrival of the Italian-flagged cruise ship AIDA on December 8, 2024, carrying 2,139 tourists from Muscat, Oman. This marks the first cruise visit following regulatory updates initiated by the Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA).
The ship’s visit is expected to stimulate the local economy, benefiting various businesses in Malé and Hulhumalé, including restaurants, shops, and guest houses. Additionally, it will contribute to foreign reserves and support economic growth.
This milestone follows the Maldives' recent recognition as the World's Leading Destination for the fifth year in a row and its first-time win as the World's Leading Green Destination. The AIDA’s visit paves the way for future cruise tourism, further diversifying and strengthening the nation’s tourism sector.
The vessel is scheduled to depart the Maldives on December 9, 2024, leaving a positive economic impact.
