The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has implemented a significant amendment to its 'Guidelines for Program Accreditation', making it mandatory for students to achieve at least 50% in controlled assessments to pass higher education courses.
The policy update, announced by MQA today, came into effect on December 1, 2024. According to the revised guidelines, students must score a minimum of 50% in each component of controlled assessments to successfully complete their courses. Institutions are also required to conduct these assessments strictly in accordance with the updated instructions.
Effective immediately, higher education institutions must align their previously approved and accredited programs with the new requirements. This move underscores MQA's commitment to enhancing academic integrity and quality assurance in higher education.
Fizana Rasheed, CEO of MQA, previously emphasized the importance of this change, noting it would address the persistent issue of academic dishonesty, including the buying and selling of assignments. The mandatory pass mark aims to uphold rigorous academic standards and ensure that students' grades reflect genuine effort and comprehension.
