Over 3,200 Maldivians Benefit from Free Medical Check-Ups Under Aasandha Scheme

The National Social Protection Agency (ANSPA) has revealed that 3,238 individuals have availed themselves of free medical check-ups under the Aasandha scheme since the government marked its first year in office. The initiative, which allows every Maldivian to undergo two free health screenings annually, has seen significant uptake among different demographics.
According to ANSPA, 1,411 males and 1,827 females utilized the service, with the highest number of participants being individuals over the age of 40. A total of 2,428 people in this age bracket availed themselves of free health checks. Additionally, the government has introduced free cancer screenings for individuals above 40, benefitting 512 people thus far.
Among younger groups, 278 individuals aged 19 to 39 underwent check-ups, while 20 children under 18 participated in school health screenings during this period.
The government expanded the Aasandha scheme in July, enabling free health screenings for all age groups to combat the rising prevalence of chronic diseases in the Maldives. Starting January 2024, individuals aged 50 and above, those between 35 and 49, and children below 19 became eligible for this service. Following these measures, the government made medical check-ups mandatory in July to encourage preventive care.
This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and addressing chronic disease risks through early detection and preventive measures.
