Kinbidhoo MP Ali Ashraf has lauded the 2025 budget, emphasizing its focus on addressing the needs of Maldivians as identified during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visits to various islands earlier this year. Ashraf, speaking during the budget debate, stressed that this is a budget driven by the people’s aspirations and designed to bring tangible changes.
“This budget reflects a government that listens to its citizens. President Muizzu’s visits allowed him to directly engage with communities and prioritize their pressing needs,” Ashraf remarked, highlighting the historical tendency for governments to promise change without delivering.
Ashraf detailed several initiatives outlined for his constituency, including stone-laying and cold storage development in Hirilandhoo, completion of the sewerage system in Kandudhoo, and the construction of health and youth centers. He also emphasized projects such as erosion control and harbor repair in Vandhoo, sewerage and infrastructure upgrades in Omadhoo, and land reclamation work in Kinbidhoo.
He further noted the inclusion of the Kinbidhoo-Veymandoo causeway project, describing it as a top priority for the government. “This project will significantly improve connectivity and quality of life for the residents of both islands,” Ashraf said.
Ashraf underscored the meticulous nature of the budget’s preparation, emphasizing that it represents a departure from previous administrations' approaches. The focus on equitable distribution and prioritization of needy areas sets it apart.
Concluding his remarks, Ashraf urged the parliament to pass the budget, affirming its alignment with the country’s developmental goals and its potential to bring lasting benefits to citizens across the Maldives.
