Indian Couple Remanded for Drug Trafficking at Velana Airport

An Indian couple has been remanded in custody for 30 days on charges of drug trafficking. The Criminal Court of Maldives ordered the extended detention of Mohammed Shoaib, 41, and his wife Aisha, 38, following their arrest at Velana International Airport.
According to the police investigation officer, the couple was found with two kilograms of drugs concealed in their luggage upon arrival. Authorities suspect the drugs were being trafficked to Sri Lanka.
The couple, who were initially remanded after their arrest, appeared before the Criminal Court yesterday, where their detention was extended for another 30 days as the investigation continues.
Police are intensifying efforts to uncover further details about the alleged trafficking operation. The case has raised concerns about drug smuggling activities in the region.
