Hulhumalé Hospital Officially Upgraded to Tertiary Care Facility

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated Hulhumalé Hospital as a tertiary care facility, marking a transformative step in Maldives' healthcare development. During the ceremony, the hospital unveiled several advanced medical services, including an Operation Theatre Complex, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and a Centralised Sterilisation Department. The hospital also received its registration and operating license as a tertiary care institution.
Following the inauguration, President Muizzu toured the upgraded facilities, viewed a video presentation on the enhancements, and interacted with hospital staff to understand the scope of the new services.
Dharumavantha Hospital CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, speaking at the event, praised the President’s vision to revolutionize the nation’s health sector. He highlighted the government’s commitment to equipping hospitals with skilled professionals and resources to raise the standard of care across Male’ City Group of Hospitals.
The hospital’s Operation Theatre Complex now boasts four specialized operating rooms catering to ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, and general surgery. Advanced laparoscopic surgeries will also be performed, with surgeons from IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital collaborating to provide comprehensive care.
The upgraded ICU features 10 beds and an isolation unit for managing communicable diseases, while the NICU now offers 14 beds dedicated to neonatal care. Additionally, a modern Central Sterile Service Department (CSSD) has been established, replacing the limited previous setup to ensure the safe sterilization of medical equipment, enhancing safety and efficiency.
This inauguration underscores the government’s focus on modernizing healthcare services and improving access to quality medical care across the Maldives.
