During an operation, Maldivian police raided a safari vessel outside Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhdhoo, confiscating a substantial quantity of alcohol reportedly transported illegally. The operation was executed by a joint team from the Gadhdhoo Police Station and Drug Narcotics Intelligence after a tip-off from narcotics intelligence regarding unauthorized alcohol on the vessel. Acting on a court order, the team seized 1,224 cans and 124 bottles of alcohol during the raid, according to police sources.
The two suspects linked to the alcohol found onboard were detained for questioning but later released as investigations continue. The Maldives maintains strict laws prohibiting alcohol outside designated areas such as resorts and licensed establishments, which serve tourists. Violations, especially those involving significant quantities of alcohol and drugs, are addressed with firm legal action, as part of the government’s effort to curb illegal substance distribution. Police report ongoing investigations and emphasize their commitment to enforcing the country's stringent regulations concerning illegal substances.
