President Muizzu’s UN Visit Cost MVR 2.4 Million, Less Than Half of Predecessor's Expenses

President Mohamed Muizzu’s recent visit to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York cost MVR 2.4 million, according to the President’s Office. The expenses for the trip, which took place from September 20 to 29, are significantly lower compared to his predecessor, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, whose visits to the UNGA in 2019 and 2021 amounted to MVR 4.17 million and MVR 5.3 million, respectively.
This year, President Muizzu traveled in business class, a departure from the first-class flights taken by previous presidents. His administration has highlighted its efforts to ensure a cost-effective trip without compromising the significance of the visit.
During his stay in New York, President Muizzu addressed the UN General Assembly, participated in several high-profile events, and delivered a speech at the UN Security Council, marking the first time a Maldivian president has spoken at this powerful body. His address gained significant international media attention, further elevating the Maldives' presence on the global stage.
The President’s Office emphasized that the expenses for this trip were kept to a minimum, demonstrating the new government's focus on fiscal responsibility while maintaining the country's international standing.
