A Criminal Court in the Maldives has remanded Mohamed Naveen, 44, to 10 days in judicial custody in connection with a robbery carried out while posing as an immigration official. According to the police, Naveen, along with accomplices, broke into a Bangladeshi national's home and stole money and a mobile phone.
Key evidence, including the victim’s statement, incident report, and CCTV footage, was presented to the court, allegedly showing Navin leaving the scene. Despite his defence claiming innocence, stating the footage merely showed him handing over a commissioned item and denying involvement in the crime, the court ruled for his detention. The defence argued that Naveen had fully cooperated with police and was willing to help locate the actual perpetrators.
The police have indicated that several others were involved in the crime, and no money has yet been recovered. The court justified the remand by citing potential risks to public safety if Naveen were released on bail.
