The Prosecutor General's Office has filed an appeal with the High Court, contesting the Criminal Court's decision to dismiss the charges against Abdulla Jihad, who served as vice president during President Abdulla Yameen's administration. Jihad is accused of actions that allegedly deviated from state interests during his tenure as Vice President under former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
The Prosecutor General's Office stated that Abdulla Jihad was charged with acting contrary to state interests during his tenure as Finance Minister in the government of former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, prior to assuming the role of Vice President under President Yameen.
During the trial, Jihad denied all allegations, and following the dismissal of the charges, the prosecution presented witnesses, including documents from the ministers' parliament, statements made by Jihad in connection with the case, and testimony from former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, among others.
The outcome of the High Court appeal will determine whether the case against Jihad will be reopened for further investigation.
