Hanimaadhoo Airport Upgrade to be Completed by March: Mubeen

The redevelopment of Hanimaadhoo International Airport will be completed by March next year, according to Regional Airports Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen. Speaking on a state media program, Mubeen confirmed that the first phase of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport Redevelopment Project is on track to meet the March deadline.
The runway, which is now complete, will be operational 24 hours a day after the Eid holidays. Additionally, the airport is developing a passenger terminal designed to accommodate 1.5 million tourists annually.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and various resorts in the northern region, efforts are being made to facilitate direct flights to Hanimaadhoo International Airport, bypassing Velana International Airport. This initiative aims to streamline travel for tourists and enhance the overall travel experience.
Mubeen also noted that the government is eager to transition to the second phase of the airport's redevelopment as soon as the first phase is completed. The second phase will include the development of a seaplane terminal, providing easy access to resorts by seaplane and further boosting the region's tourism infrastructure.
The completion of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport redevelopment is expected to be a significant milestone, enhancing connectivity and supporting the growth of tourism in the northern Maldives.
