Maldives to Focus on Major Markets to Boost Tourist Numbers: Minister Faisal

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has announced plans to focus on major markets to boost the number of tourists visiting the Maldives. In an interview with state media PSM, Minister Faisal noted that tourist arrivals typically decline in June and July each year.
While acknowledging the seasonal dip, the minister highlighted that this year's decline is less significant compared to previous years. To address the low season, several measures are planned to increase tourist numbers during this period.
Minister Faisal emphasized the importance of collaborating with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) to enhance tourist occupancy rates from 15% to 20%. He stressed that increasing the MMPRC's budget is crucial for successful tourism promotion, which in turn can easily offset the expenditure through increased revenue.
"Tourism is the largest income-generating industry in the Maldives, but it is subject to seasonal fluctuations," said Minister Faisal. "By strategically targeting major markets and investing in promotional activities, we aim to mitigate the impact of the low season and sustain growth."
The Maldives, renowned for its picturesque beaches and luxurious resorts, continues to attract millions of tourists annually. However, Minister Faisal's new initiatives are expected to further bolster the industry's resilience against seasonal downturns.
