Preparations are underway to host this year's Asian Surfing Championship in K. Thulusdhoo, scheduled to take place from August 17 to 24.
Last year, 90 athletes from 18 countries competed in the event. This year's tournament is particularly special as the winners will earn a chance to compete in the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, making it a key qualifying event.
Speaking at the event launch yesterday, Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu (Rappe) expressed optimism that with more athletes participating, this year's competition will provide a significant opportunity for the country to grow. The minister's biggest hope is that Maldivian athletes will perform well in the Thulusdhoo competition and secure their spots in the Asian Games.
The event launch was attended by President of the Surfing Association Mohamed Sobah, Olympic Committee Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, and Thulusdhoo Council Vice President Mohamed Shaheem.
