The Civil Court of the Maldives has ordered India's GoAir to pay $3.6 million (MVR 55.5 million) to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). This amount encompasses various fees and taxes levied on international passengers departing from Maldivian airports, including service charges, departure taxes, and development fees.
The court observed that GoAir had failed to pay these fees and taxes to MIRA between April 2022 and March 2023. Despite multiple attempts to contact the airline, GoAir did not respond to the court summons or appear in court, leading to the verdict being sent to the company's known address at M. Nargis and subsequently addressed to the 3rd floor of the STO Aifaanu Building in Malé.
GoAir commenced operations to the Maldives in October 2018 but ceased flying in March 2023 after filing for bankruptcy.
