President Mohamed Muizzu formally inaugurated the five million tree plantation programme at a ceremony held at lonuziyaaraiy Park. The event was attended by the First Lady, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, government ministers, and senior officials.
During the ceremony, 22 varieties of saplings were planted at lonuziyaaraiy Park. The programme aims to include endangered species, fruit-bearing trees, garden trees, shade trees, and medicinal plants. This initiative highlights the government's dedication to protecting the country's fragile environment and combating climate change for future generations.
The logo and PIN for the programme were also unveiled, with the government encouraging all citizens to participate in donating and planting trees. The tree plantation programme launched today fulfils a promise made in the government's manifesto.
