Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced that RTL services will begin in Noonu Atoll in June.
In a press conference, Minister Ameen emphasized the importance of addressing the current issues in the transport sector. He mentioned that the introduction of RTL services in Noonu Atoll is part of a broader effort to enhance transportation services across the atolls of Maldives. Following Noonu Atoll, RTL services will also be introduced in Raa Atoll and Baa Atoll in August and September respectively.
Additionally, in a significant expansion, RTL services will commence in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani Atolls in June, Lhaviyani Atoll in July, Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu Atolls in August, and Fuvahmulah City and Addu City in September.
However, RTL services will not start in zones 3 and 4. Moreover, zone 2 will see RTL services in three atolls (Noonu, Raa, and Baa), following which the Ministry of Transport will focus on resolving existing transportation challenges.
The rollout of RTL services is expected to significantly improve inter-atoll connectivity, benefiting residents and supporting the economic development of the Maldives.
