President H.E. Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Barbados, H.E. the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, SC, M.P., and the Government of Barbados for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements made during his stopover in Barbados today.
Upon his arrival at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), President Dr Muizzu was warmly welcomed by the Hon. C. Sandra V. Husbands, M.P., Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Ms. Resa Layne, Chief of Protocol. During his brief visit, the President and his delegation were given a tour of Barbados's cultural and historical sites, highlighting the island's rich heritage and natural beauty.
Although Prime Minister Mottley was out of the country, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his gratitude to her over a telephone conversation. He expressed his delight at witnessing the beauty of Barbados and thanked the Prime Minister for the generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation. The President praised Prime Minister Mottley's leadership at the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), particularly her efforts in advocating for the reform of the international financial architecture.
President Dr Muizzu also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the Maldives and Barbados. He noted that the Maldivian Government prioritizes working together with Barbados towards implementing the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS.
President Dr Muizzu's stopover in Barbados was part of his return journey to the Maldives after attending the SIDS4 conference in Antigua and Barbuda.
