Minister Rafiu Encourages Olympics-Selected Naba

Minister Abdulla Rafiu (Rappe) met with badminton player Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq (Naba), who has been selected to compete in the upcoming Olympics in Paris, France, this July.
Naba has made history by becoming the first badminton athlete from the Maldives to compete in two consecutive Olympic Games, having previously participated in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to Naba, the only other Maldivian badminton athlete to compete in the Olympics was Mohammad Ajfan Rashid, who participated in the 2012 Olympics.
During the meeting, Minister Rafiu congratulated Naba on her remarkable achievement and discussed her preparations for the Olympics. The meeting was also attended by Naba's sister, Aminath Nabiha (Nabi), who is also well-known for her versatility in badminton within the country.
Naba secured her place at the Olympics through a tripartite invitational opportunity, a recognition of the significant progress she has made over the past four years. This year, the Maldives will be represented in badminton, table tennis, swimming, and athletics at the Olympics.
In addition to Naba's selection, Fathimath Dhima Ali has been chosen to represent the Maldives in table tennis. Dhima qualified for the Olympics through the South Asia Olympic qualifying round, becoming the first Maldivian athlete to achieve this milestone.
Minister Rafiu's encouragement and support underscore the importance of these athletes' achievements as they prepare to represent the Maldives on the world stage at the Paris Olympics.
