Antigua and Barbuda – President H.E. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Wavel Ramkalawan, today, underscoring the solidarity and shared challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on SIDS (SIDS4), an event dedicated to addressing the unique issues these island nations encounter.
During their conversation, Presidents Muizzu and Ramkalawan emphasized the necessity for SIDS to collaborate in overcoming common challenges. They discussed a wide array of topics, including youth engagement, people-to-people exchanges, and the security of the Indian Ocean Region. A significant portion of their dialogue focused on national efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change, combat sea level rise, and restore coral reefs.
President Ramkalawan assured President Muizzu of Seychelles' unwavering support for the Maldives across various sectors. Both leaders highlighted their common stances on numerous thematic areas and agreed on the importance of enhancing cooperation to achieve shared goals.
In concluding their meeting, the two presidents expressed optimism for strengthened bilateral and multilateral cooperation between their countries. They reiterated the importance of SIDS4 as a platform for fostering resilient prosperity among island nations.
President Muizzu's presence at SIDS4, which is scheduled to take place from May 27 to 30 under the theme "Charting the Course Towards Resilient Prosperity," signifies the Maldives' commitment to addressing the pressing issues faced by SIDS and fostering international cooperation to achieve sustainable development.
