The number of tourists who have arrived in Maldives so far this year has nearly reached 700,000.
According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 682,262 tourists visited Maldives as of the 13th of this month, an increase of 14.3 per cent over the same period last year.
According to the ministry, 498,247 and 596,844 tourists visited Maldives during the same period in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
China tops the list of tourist arrivals so far this year, with 73,391 tourists having arrived in Maldives. That amounts to 10.8 percent of the total tourist arrivals.
In 2023, the third largest number of tourists arrived from the UK, though they now sit in second place, with 68,484 British tourists having arrived in Maldives. Russia trails slightly on the list as the third largest, with 67,829 Russian tourists who have journeyed to Maldives..
A total of 1,181 tourism destinations are currently operating in the country. These include 181 resorts, 843 guesthouses, 147 safaris and 15 hotels. These facilities operate 62,206 beds for tourism.
