Former HDC Management’s Illegal Activities to be Submitted to ACC

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to report the irregular activities carried out by the former management to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
HDC Managing Director Fazul Rasheed said this while addressing the people of V. Felidhoo yesterday, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the atolls.
Fazul said the previous management of HDC had done many things to the detriment of the state. The matters will be submitted to the ACC after an audit of the company is conducted.
Speaking at the rally yesterday, Fazul said the situation of the HDC has deteriorated. The company is in a debt of $10 billion, and there will be people who have brought the situation of the HDC to this level, he said. Although there are those who are unhappy with the audit reports being prepared, Fazul said he would not hesitate to do so, with the interest of the people of the country in his mind.
Previously, while speaking at a rally on behalf of the People’s National Congress Party (PNC) on the 3rd of this month, Fazul said that the former management of HDC had sold about 50 plots of land, including in the first and second phases of Hulhumalé, to various parties. Fazul added that a further 35 plots of land in Thilafushi had been allocated to various parties temporarily, but also against the proper procedure for land allocation.

“In fact, this was a huge loss of revenue for HDC...including audit reports that I will declare the previous management responsible for,” Fazul said in regard to the land given from Thilafushi.

He stated that the land in Thilafushi had been unjustly allocated to those who have no rights to the land. Moreover, the land was allocated for a period of 1 year, contrary to the usual allocation by HDC.

In addition, the previous management of HDC had not received a large sum of the money due to HDC, Fazul said. The management had not done anything to earn the income, he said. Some people have been allocated land unfairly, he said. More than one plot of land has been allocated to one family, with the claim that it is random, he said.

In addition to the losses caused by the failure to recover the money owed to HDC, the company has also suffered huge losses due to the hasty awarding of projects by the previous management, he said.

Fazul added that the light pieces brought to illuminate the streets of Hulhumalé have been turned into bar iron by the previous management. He strongly criticized the former management, saying that they should be held responsible for the losses caused by such negligence.
