Irregularly Allocated 50 Lands Will Be Confiscated: Fazul

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will take back 50 plots of land allocated by the previous government in violation of the rules and regulations, the company's Managing Director Fazul Rasheed said yesterday.
The President, who is on a tour of local islands, aiming to meet with the people of the atolls, said that he had looked into the manner in which the land was allocated as there were many concerns regarding the land allocated by the previous government in Hulhumalé.
Fazul stated yesterday that, as he had said earlier, he had noticed that about fifty of the lands allocated in the three phases of the Hulhumalé City had been allocated illegally and unfairly.
“I repeat that 50 plots of land were given unfairly in Phase One, Phase Two and Phase Three of Hulhumalé.”
Fazul further said that he was facing pressure, with people trying to prevent him from discussing the unfair land allocations. He said he would talk about irregularities despite pressure and personal information being shared on social media.
Fazul assured the people that the HDC will recover the irregularly allocated land within the rules. He said he would work to recover the lands while ensuring the rights of the recipients.
"We will try to confiscate the land given to different people. We will ensure their rights. However, if the land is given illegally, we will sort it out through the rules," Fazul said.
Fazul pointed out that the previous government had tried to give money to JAAH through HDC, as the people who bought the flats from SeaLife, Jausa, JAAH, and K-Park had not received housing.
In addition, 35 plots of land have been unfairly allocated for temporary use, he said
