The label for homemade and packaged foods was launched at a special ceremony held at the Islamic Center today to prove authenticity to consumers.
Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady Saajidha Mohamed said that the label launched today will provide opportunities for those working from home to expand their businesses, especially women's businesses.
Highlighting the objective of the label launch, the First Lady said that the label is designed to ensure food safety. Giving a logo or sign to those who comply with the standards set by the UN will increase public confidence in the safety of these items.
The logo was designed by BCC. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Food and Drug Authority, and will benefit those who work at home to earn an income, she said.
The First Lady concluded her speech by urging the Parliament to enact the Food Security Bill from 2021, and implement it soon.
People can apply for a logo for home-made and packaged food items through the Dhirithi Portal. It was announced that the "Registration of Home Food Producers for Income Earning Purposes" through BCC has now been gazetted.
