First Woman Appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Customs

A woman has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Service of the Maldives for the first time in its history.
Customs said Fathimath Dhiyana, who has served the agency for the past 23 years, was appointed to the post yesterday. Dhiyana was previously the Deputy Chief Superintendent of Customs.
Customs said in a post on X that this is the first time in its 133-year history that a woman has been appointed as a deputy commissioner.
"This is a strong step to establish class equality and empowerment in Customs," Customs said.
Besides Dhiyana, there are two other Deputy Commissioners in Customs, including Abdullah Waheed and Mahmood Riyaz.
