The National Medicine Policy has been launched to ensure easy importation of quality medicines in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health.
The National Medicine Policy of the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), for the next six years, will focus on ensuring access to quality pharmaceuticals without discrimination and with haste.
The policy says countries with strong regulatory systems can facilitate the import of drugs and will come into force after the guidelines are issued by the authority.
In an assessment, 18 countries have been ranked in the top category for quality in medicines, thus the importation of medicines from these countries will be made a priority.
The Health Ministry said the guidelines will be made public within a month and will improve the quality of medicines imported into Maldives.
