The Progressive Congress Coalition (PPM/PNC) has announced the provisional results of the primary for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The provisional results were posted on the PNC website.
The PPM/PNC has decided to contest in 86 constituencies in the March 17 parliamentary elections. Only one member has applied to contest the primary for 13 constituencies.
The primaries for the remaining 73 constituencies were held on 27th of this month. A total of 283 candidates contested the election.
71,597 people were eligible to vote in 73 constituencies while 62,759 people cast their ballots.
Among those who contested the primary and secured tickets are those who served in the 18th Parliament.
They include former Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail, former Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim, former Thinadhoo North MP Saudullah Hilmy and former Maafannu South MP Ibrahim Rifaau (Boche). Other former MPs who received tickets were Ibrahim Falah for Inguraidhoo and Asma Rasheed for Maafannu Central.
The candidates who secured their tickets without a primary include PNC Chairman and Presidential Special Advisor Abdul Raheem Abdullah, Councilor Ibrahim Shujau, Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Salim and Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thariq is included.
They also include Fatimath Saudha, who is contesting for Nilandhoo constituency, Ahmed Azaan Marzooq, who is contesting for Hithadhoo Central constituency and Ibrahim Mohamed (Ibuty), who is contesting for Galolhu South constituency.
