Climate Change, Environment and Energy Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has said that no effort has been made by the previous government to improve the electricity situation in Addu City.
The Minister said this in an exclusive interview with state media PSM during his visit to Addu to inspect the condition of the institutions under the mandate of his ministry.
Describing the situation in Addu, the Minister said the condition of the Central Power Station in Addu has deteriorated. Also, the power house under construction in Addu has been left unfinished, and if an existing generator breaks down, power will be cut off in some areas of city, he said.
The minister added that the last government did not develop the water production system in Addu and the existing RRO plant in the city is in disrepair.
The Minister visited various institutions in Addu and discussed the strengthening of WAMCO. The minister discussed ways to strengthen the waste collection system and increase safety before the month of Ramadan.
Minister Thoriq visited the WAMCO site, Fenaka site and the Addu City Council.
