Compensation Paid Under Agreements Made by Previous Government: Dr. Shafeeq

The settlement committee formed by the previous government decided to pay compensation to those who have signed agreements with the previous government during the first 11 days of this year, Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq said.
The settlement committee set up by the previous government to pay compensation has paid large sums of money to many individuals and organizations.
23 million MVR in compensation was paid between January 1st and January 11th, however this was under compensation agreements signed by the previous government, he said, adding that the agreements were sent to the Attorney General's Office for review.
"We have taken over the government and the settlement committee has now been dissolved. This government has not decided to compensate anyone. And this government has not decided to release any money as compensation," he said.
The minister said the money was not disclosed because the agreement required the then government not to disclose the compensation and the amount of money paid to them.
The settlement committee formed by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has paid large amounts of money to various companies without any rules. The amount of compensation is expected to exceed 3 billion MVR.
