The government has announced that an Egyptian company has taken interest in the bridge project between Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City.
Principal Secretary to the President Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has stated that ‘The Arab Contractors’ based in Egypt have gone as far as to offer to do the surveys for the project without cost to the government.
After this revelation, the Economic Council has decided to award the contract to the company upon the successful completion of the surveys.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised to build the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge as part of his 14 Week roadmap for his administration. Previous governments have promised to begin this project, but no progress has been made to date.
The government has allocated USD 2 million for the project, with preparations already underway for the handover of technical detailed feasibility and design work that is required for the construction of the bridge.
