President Orders To Reform Emergency Patient Transportation Procedures

The President has asked the relevant authorities to reform the system of bringing patients to emergency treatment centers following the death of a young boy.
Mohamed Jaah Khalid, a 13-year-old boy, has died while undergoing treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). He was transported to IGMH from his home island of G.A. Vilingili after suffering a stroke. As a result of this tragic event, the President has ordered the relevant authorities to change the system of transporting patients in emergencies to avoid such tragedies from occurring.
The President expressed his deep sorrow and concern for the boy’s passing and extended his condolences to the parents and family of the late Mohammed Jaah Khalid.
He stated that if a patient needs to be brought by air for further treatment in a medical emergency, the national airline should, in the future, always follow the priority rule of bringing the patient as soon as possible upon such request from a health facility without waiting for arrangements by the government.
The President has said the new air ambulance service will be launched in March, which will aid in speeding up the process of transferring patients from the islands to the relevant medical centers.
