Late on Thursday evening, the Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdulla, disclosed that Mohamed Asir Ismail, a resident of Gaskara in S. Maradhoo-Feydhoo, who had been reported missing almost two weeks prior, had been located.
Minister Imran took to Twitter to announce that Asir had been found, conveying his gratitude to the Maldives Police Service for their relentless and unwavering efforts in locating him. Nevertheless, he provided no further details on the subject matter.
However, TMJ learned that Asir was discovered sitting on a bench outside the departure lounge of Velana International Airport, and a passerby informed the airport police of his presence.
The authorities claimed in an earlier statement that they had scrutinized over 150 hours of CCTV footage from cameras located near Asir's dwelling and Velana International Airport, where he was last seen. Furthermore, they had inquired whether Asir had made any domestic or international travel bookings under his name, with their investigations leading them to confirm that he had not traveled anywhere, either abroad or domestically.
In addition to this, the Police had also queried whether Asir had booked any accommodations in guesthouses in the Male' region and K. Maafushi.
On Tuesday, February 7th, the Police appealed to the public for assistance in locating Asir, stating that his family had not heard from him since Sunday, February 5.
