Wang Lixin, the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, has stated that the Maldives was the first nation to be visited by Chinese volunteers after China reopened its borders following the COVID-19 pandemic. The ambassador made these remarks during an event held to commemorate China's support for the development of Hulhumale's Ophthalmology Centre at the hospital.
Ambassador Lixin highlighted that the Maldives holds a special place in China's foreign policy, which can be observed from the policies that China has with international countries. "The Maldives was the first country to receive a visit from Chinese aid teams after the COVID-19 pandemic, which showcases the significant importance that President Xi Jinping has accorded to the Maldives in China's foreign policy," said the ambassador.
The ambassador also mentioned that this year marks the sixtieth year that the Chinese government has sent its health workers to various nations. However, the programme was suspended for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic before being resumed.
