President Solih's furniture store raises prices

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's furniture store, Allora Pan Home, has recently announced a hike in prices for all of their goods. The store, which specializes in household furniture, as well as office furniture under the Allora brand, has raised prices due to the 2% increase in GST.
This announcement comes despite previous statements from the government that prices of goods would not be affected by the GST hike. Allora Pan Home and its affiliated stores were directly owned by President Solih until July 2018, when he transferred the shares to his son Yamaan and daughter Sara in order to run for office.
It should be noted that President Solih and his family, including first lady Fazna, have extensive business interests in the Maldives and abroad.
The public reaction to the price increase is not clear yet. But it may be a cause of concern for many customers who have been loyal to Allora Pan Home.
