President Mohamed Nasheed has criticized President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for what he called "slow" progress in his administration. Speaking at a campaign event for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primary, Nasheed said that members of the party are unhappy with the pace of progress under President Solih's leadership.
"I am saying that his work is slow. Our party members are unhappy with that. I repeat he is slow. Our party members want a work to be initiated and then it to be completed without taking rest," said Nasheed. He emphasized that the people of the Maldives want to see projects completed, and that they do not want to see incomplete projects left behind.
In addition to criticizing the speed of progress, Nasheed also criticized the government's policy of awarding contracts to state-owned companies. He said that this approach will lead to corruption and suggested that work which can be done by private companies should be left to private companies, rather than being awarded to state-owned corporations.
Nasheed is currently competing in the MDP primary to win the party's ticket for the upcoming presidential election. He has been criticizing President Solih for what he says is his incompetence and mismanagement of the Maldives economy.
