Last night, President Solih was met with jeers and boos as he took to the stage at his campaign rally.
Supporters of opposition PPM gathered just 200 feet away, shouting slogans such as "Ibu the thief" and "Solih the traitor" while calling for the president's resignation.
Despite appearing disturbed by the disturbance, President Solih attempted to downplay the situation by citing his commitment to political pluralism.
However, not everyone in attendance at the MDP event was there of their own volition - it has been reported that some attendees were state-owned enterprise employees who were essentially forced to attend.
President Solih is currently running in the MDP primary election against rival and Parliament Speaker, President Nasheed. While the majority of cabinet ministers and senior government officials are supporting President Solih, a small number of party activists remain loyal to Nasheed.
