Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eva Abdullah has requested that the Finance Minister, Ameer, disclose the report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) following bilateral discussions with the Maldives under Article IV of the IMF's articles of agreement.
In a tweet today, Eva revealed that she had made the request, stating that it is dangerous not to be transparent during times of economic uncertainty.
This request comes after the government's decision not to publish the Article IV reports for the past three years. President Nasheed has also criticized this decision.
Article IV consultations are a regular process through which the IMF reviews the economic and financial developments of member countries. These consultations are meant to provide the IMF with a better understanding of a member country's economic situation and to offer policy advice to the country. The report resulting from the Article IV consultation is typically made public, although the member country has the final decision on whether to publish it.
