President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the root of the rift between the Speaker of the Parliament and the President of MDP, President Mohamed Nasheed, is that the former president wanted power.
At a press conference held at the President's Office, a journalist asked about the rift between President Nasheed and President Solih. Replying to the question, he said that the difference of opinion between the president and Nasheed at the moment is due to him being in power at the moment and that is bound to happen with Nasheed whoever is in power.
The President further said that even when Nasheed was in power, there were disputes between him and Nasheed. After telling Nasheed what he sees as to how to make decisions, he leaves it to him to discuss the matter with the people who need to be consulted as Nasheed was in power.
The president said that, now that he is in power, he should consult with others before making a major decision.
"The main reason why there is a difference of opinion right now is that President Nasheed wants power. When everyone is in power, there will be differences of opinion. So the current difference of opinion is because I am in office," he said.
