President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's MDP primary support form filling-up activities have begun at government offices.
In some of the pictures that have surfaced on social media, political employees of the Ministry of Economic Development can be seen filling out support forms for President Solih inside the office. In the pictures that have surfaced, three senior executive directors of the ministry — Aishath Waheed, Ghalib Saleem and Shadhiya Adam — can be seen signing the forms.
No government has ever carried out such political activities in government offices in the past. Civil servants in the office have expressed concern over political activities in the office premises. Similar activities are being carried out in several other ministries, including the Ministry of Economy.
While president Solih's campaign activities are being carried out using government offices and resources, the process of filling up the support form of President Mohamed Nasheed began yesterday in front of MDP campaign headquarters.
The party's primary is scheduled to be held on January 18, making it the first time that a person in power is contesting in a party's primary.
