Former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Moosa Manik has been entrusted with the responsibility of running president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's campaign in the ruling MDP primaries to be held next month.
President Solih assigned this responsibility to Moosa Manik, who owes millions to various state-owned companies, at a meeting held at Salt Cafe last night. Moosa owes millions to Maldivian, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority and Bank of Maldives. However, due to his close ties with President Solih, no action has been taken against him.
The president also appointed various people for key positions of his campaign. MP Nashiz was appointed as the overall campaign manager while Defence Minister Mariya Didi will lead the campaign activities in Male' city.
While President Solih has announced that he will run for MDP's primary, speaker of parliament Mohamed Nasheed has also announced that he will run for the primary. He, however, said the primaries would not be fair. He alleged that the party's membership register was rigged and that 40,000 members of the party had been removed from the party's membership.
He has requested the party's chairperson Fayyaz Ismail to ensure that the membership register is free of errors.
